There are so many dangers that can affect our body and metabolism, some of them because of not taking care of ourselves and not living a healthy life. Others can be genetically inherited or a bitter joke life treats us with. One of these unfortunate illnesses is diabetes.
There is a way your body uses food for energy and diabetes affects this way as being a disorder. Insulin is a hormone being produced by the pancreas (located behind the stomach and liver) is helping the glucose, sugar move into cells. Based on the level of glucose the amount of insulin is adjusted by the healthy pancreas. This process is broken down, when having diabetes and the levels of sugar become too high.
There are two types of diabetes. Type one is the severe one. In this case the pancreas produces less or no insulin at all. The origin of this type is still not fully known, but it has a genetic base. It usually occurs before the age of 30. Because the pancreas cannot produce the necessary insulin to transport sugar in cells to the body to gain energy, sugar can build up in the blood causing damage to blood vessels and internal organs. That is why those who have diabetes must take insulin day by day in order to survive and often check their blood sugar levels.
Type 2 diabetes is not that severe as type 1, there is no insulin needed to be taken. It is a disorder that influences the way fats, protein and carbohydrates, the sources of glucose, are processed and used by the body. The most common sign of this type of diabetes is the high level of sugar found in the blood. It usually affects people over 40.
The body cells do not react in a proper way to the insulin produced by the pancreas; insulin resistance occurs, that is why the blood glucose level increases. There are various symptoms that can be observed when having diabetes, just as weight loss, thirst or excessive urination. Type 2 diabetes can be cured with the help of medications, but if not careful the sugar level in the blood might drop below the normal, causing low sugar level.
